What is BIMI?
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) lets domain owners display a verified brand logo next to their emails in supporting mailbox providers. When an email passes DMARC authentication, the recipient's inbox shows the logo defined in the domain's BIMI DNS record, strengthening brand recognition and building trust.
Prerequisites
BIMI requires a published DMARC record with an enforcement policy of p=quarantine or p=reject. A policy of p=none does not satisfy the requirement. The logo must be in SVG Tiny 1.2 (also called SVG Tiny PS) format: square, no scripts, no animations, no external references. For broader mailbox provider support -- particularly Gmail -- a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) from a qualified Certificate Authority (DigiCert or Entrust) is required.
BIMI Record Format
| Tag | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
v | Yes | Version identifier. Must be BIMI1. |
l | Yes | HTTPS URL to the SVG Tiny 1.2 brand logo. |
a | No | HTTPS URL to a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC). |
